Tobago Holidays

Last minute breaks to Tobago

Tobago is a small, but very beautiful Caribbean island – the smaller half of the dual nation that is Trinidad and Tobago. Compared to other Caribbean islands Tobago has suffered little commercial development, making it a Mecca for those looking for low key family holidays or last minute breaks with a Robinson Crusoe touch – it is his island, after all.
Tobago is everything you want the Caribbean to be: perfect beaches, year-round sunshine, crystal clear waters, coral reefs, luxuriant rainforests and exotic wildlife. Add to this first class fishing and diving facilities, cycling and hiking trails, top class hotels and the biggest carnival in the Caribbean, and you’ll soon see why the island is such a popular choice for holidaymakers.

Taking family breaks in Tobago

Tobago offers a laid back alternative to vibrant, night-clubbing Trinidad, and is the more popular of the two islands for family breaks. There’s plenty for adults to do here too – although it’s more geared towards daytime activity such as diving and bird-watching hikes.
Tobago is rightly proud of its natural beauty, first-class dive sites, nature reserves and stunning bays, but how you enjoy them is up to you. Most of the larger hotels offering all inclusive holidays are sited around the capital of Scarborough, near the airport. However, quieter family holidays can be taken to the north of the island. Although small, these hotels offer a full range of activities including live entertainment, nature excursions and diving tuition – all from the privacy of your own private beach.

Beaches in Tobago

Tobago hasn’t changed much from the days of Robinson Crusoe. Resolutely devoid of commercialism, the beaches rarely feature anything more than a small snack bar, if that. The resort hotels are restricted to the commercial tourist areas around Scarborough, but the island is so tiny it’s easy to find a more secluded hideaway.
For idyllic last minute breaks, head for Englishman’s Bay, at the edge of the rainforest. It boasts just one small snack bar, but has superb snorkelling and an unparalleled display of birdlife. The Sunday Times reported it as one of the best beaches in the Caribbean.
Mount Irvine offers a different lifestyle. People booking all inclusive holidays at the hotel can enjoy beach bars, parasol hire, snorkelling and an amazing array of sealife. The beach is free to non-residents, who can also book most of the activities.
There are too many beautiful beaches at Tobago to cover here – why not go and find them for yourself? We at Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors have last minute breaks and family breaks there throughout the year.
