Fuerteventura Holidays
Fuerteventura, the Island for Great Holidays
Fuerteventura is an island of beautifully crystal clear waters, sandy beaches stretching for 35 miles and waves that have ensured that this resort is the second largest windsurfing attraction in the world. The weather is similar to the climate experienced in Florida earning Fuerteventura all year round popularity with those looking for all inclusive holidays near the beach.
If you are looking for a destination that offers family breaks that are great for safety, offer stunning, high standard beaches and have a welcoming child-friendly approach this is definitely for you.
All year round temperatures rarely peak above 26°C or drop below 15°C. The top temperatures are from May to October but there is a constant cooling breeze. You are virtually guaranteed great weather with an annual average of 2,900 hours of sunshine and little rain.
Things to do on holiday in Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura has great shopping opportunities as it boasts duty free status. This means alcohol, perfume, tobacco and some electrical goods are generally cheap to buy. Aloe Vera is locally produced and can be found everywhere on the island. Other top buys are handbags, local cheeses and logo shirts. There are markets in some of the main resorts of Correlejo, Caleta and Costa Calma and these markets are great places to barter over ceramics and jewellery.
There are plenty of idyllic villages and towns to visit such as Antigua, El Cotillo, La Oliva and Betancuria.
For families, swimming is a safe option for kids except in waters on the west coast where you’ll find some strong currents. The island is geared towards relaxation and enjoyment of the sun on its beaches but if you want loungers, umbrellas and facilities such as toilets and snack bars then visit beaches at resorts such as Morro Jable, Caleta, Correlejo and Costa Calma. For other beaches you’ll need to go prepared with your own sun creams, shade and beverages.
There are plenty of snorkelling activities for kids and there is also dolphin watching available at Correlejo. Other popular activities for the family are windsurfing, mountain biking and skiing.
This island is truly a haven for families seeking a safe and relaxing environment for their children. To find out more about the great family holidays available in Fuerteventura, speak to one of our travel advisors at Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors today.
