The trust has been running since 1969 and it provides a natural environment for orphaned chimpanzees.  For children and adults, Baboon Island is a perfect trip out on your family holidays.

For those interested in history, Fort James can be found on the River Gambia. Fort James was a strategic fort built in the 1650s and has been used as a military stronghold by every army from the French to the British over the last 350 plus years.

Getting around in Gambia

Gambia’s roads are still developing and there is no train system, so the best form of transport in Gambia is via taxi. You’re advised to agree any taxi fees in advance to avoid confusion. You can also hire cars in Gambia, but this is quite expensive in comparison. 

Food in Gambia

As Gambia was a former British Colony you’ll find most Western tastes catered for, however you should also try the local dishes as they’re some of the best in Africa. Local Gambian dishes of fish, meat or vegetables are usually served with a rich sauce on a bed of rice.
