Holidays for all to New Zealand

Take your holidays in New Zealand and you might want to stay forever. Whether you choose fly-drive, activity based or family holidays, New Zealand will both enthral and inspire you.

Between the two islands – North and South – that make up New Zealand, there is a wealth of landscapes and culture. The less densely populated, but larger South Island is known mainly for its ski resorts and glaciers. The warmer North island is where most family holidays are taken. Here you have the vibrant cities of Wellington and Auckland, the surfing resorts of Coromandel and Tauranga, the rolling pastures of Hamilton, the subterranean caverns of Waitamo and the volcanic surrealism of Roturua. Everywhere, both north and south, you have the rich Maori culture and the unique New Zealand welcome.

Invariably, when people take family holidays in New Zealand, it is with pensive thoughts that maybe, one day, they might settle there for good. We at Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors can offer last minute breaks in all the top New Zealand resorts – whether you decide to make it a permanent holiday is up to you.

Things to do in New Zealand

The fertile green landscape of the Waikato region, to the South of Auckland, hides the labyrinth of tunnels that is the Waitomo cavern complex. Book a camper van, and you can take self-catering family breaks in one of Waitomo’s holiday parks. Alternatively, if you book all inclusive holidays at Hamilton, you can book it as an excursion. Hamilton, on the banks of the Waikato River, is New Zealand’s fourth largest town and is famous for its themed gardens and wildlife attractions.

The Bay of Plenty is a leading destination for family holidays, a 200 km arc of golden beaches and kiwi orchards stretching from the surfer’s paradise of East Cape to the verdant walkways of Coromandel. Captain Cook landed here, in 1769, and the area bristles with Maori influences and resorts like Tauranga: popular for its beaches, it offers excursions to nearby attractions like Whale Island nature reserve and desolate, volcanic White Island.

Lovers of the bizarre and beautiful book their family breaks at Roturua. Rich in Maori culture, the landscape veers from steaming geothermal mud pools and spouting geysers, to snow-clad volcanoes, redwood forests and crystalline lakes. Last minute holidays here aren’t complete without taking a ride – on horse or cycle – to explore the forest trails.

The cities of Wellington and Auckland have something for all, with stunning waterfronts and a sophisticated modern culture of shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife. This is where you’ll find New Zealand’s nightlife and arts events, as well as hiking trails, watersports and beaches galore.
