Tunisia is a fantastic destination for family holidays and last minute breaks. There is an interesting mix of beautiful Mediterranean beaches, ancient medinas and sites to explore and an unending list of family attractions. If you have older children you may want to explore but for the little ones then one of the Mediterranean resorts and their all inclusive holidays may be preferable.
You can stimulate the imaginations of children with trips to learn about Tunisia’s exotic past with an excursion to Carthage or the caves of Ali Baba. The food will be enjoyed by all the family and the locals are warm and friendly. With a climate that is hot for most of the year Tunisia is popular with those seeking all inclusive holidays. The best time for warm holidays in Tunisia is in the spring months from March to May when temperatures are a balmy 25°C. After this the temperatures increase and from June to September temperatures are between 27 to 30°C on the coast and inland they can hit a whopping 45°C. In the summer months you’ll get around 12 hours of sunshine.
Hammamet and Sousse are the top beach resorts and have an excellent range of hotels and apartments to choose from. Skanes, situated near Monastir is also becoming an increasingly popular beach resort. Port el Kantaoui is a purpose built marina that rivals those in the South of France and the island of Jerba offers a sedate and down to earth alternative resort.
There is plenty to do. You can sunbathe, fish and dive along 800 miles of Mediterranean coastline. There are day trips to Carthage with a chance to stand where Hannibal did before taking on the Roman Empire. For the adventurous take a trip out to the Sahara Desert to visit an oasis town or visit the locations used to film the English Patient and Star Wars.
If you’d rather relax and unwind there are plenty of spa treatments to enjoy on holiday in Tunisia; Tunisia is becoming known as the destination for spa holidays. Thalassotherapy is particularly popular. There is also the chance to go bird watching at the National Heritage Park on Lake Ichkeul; every year around 200,000 birds migrate there.
