Bulgaria has become a favourite holiday destination for many of our customers at The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors. Now, travellers can fly to the same airports to take advantage of the numerous skiing holidays we can offer in Bulgaria. Bulgaria has a magnificent mountain landscape, with 4 missives covering 111,000 sq km. Altitudes range from less than 1000 m to 2500 m plus, meaning plenty of opportunities for skiers of all levels. Resorts used for Bulgarian skiing breaks are less crowded than other parts of Europe. However, Bulgarians have taken ski breaks here since the 1890s, meaning the resorts match the best that Austria has to offer. Bulgarian ski resorts are well developed and modern, with excellent lift networks, and ski schools with top Bulgarian instructors (many at Olympic level). Despite this, Bulgarian ski holidays remain extraordinarily good value.
The three major Bulgarian ski resorts are Bansko, Borovets, and Pamporovo. There are also several smaller resorts, often close to areas renowned for their summer sun. Vitosha is only 10 km from Sofia (and summer resorts like Vidin) while Chepelare is close to Varna and resorts like St Constantine. This makes them great bases for a “sun and ski” vacation.Bansko is Bulgaria’s top resort for skiing holidays. This large, modern ski centre has been totally redesigned with the best ski hotels in Bulgaria. Boasting the best snow and longest ski season (skiing continues to the middle of May) it is Bulgaria’s premiere destination for ski breaks. Bansko is just 170 km from Sofia airport.
Pamporovo is a familiar town to our summer travellers at The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors, as it is close to the resort of Devin, at Plovdiv – and in the heart of the beautiful Rhodopi mountain region. Pamporovo has something for everyone. The gentle, rounded contours of the slopes makes ski holidays in Pamporovo particularly suited to beginners, while difficult courses like the Giant Slalom run are a challenge even for expert skiers. Pamporovo is also perfect for family skiing breaks. One of the most Southerly ski resorts in Europe, it’s the sunniest in Bulgaria and the nearest to the sunshine resorts of Plovdiv.
Borovets, just 70 km from Sofia, is Bulgaria’s oldest winter ski resort, with people having skied here since 1896.With elevations of up to 2600 m, and surrounded by pine woods, it offers great ski breaks for advanced skiers. As with all ski holidays in Bulgaria the hotels, instructors and après ski facilities are first class.Booking Bulgarian skiing breaks with us at The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors allows you to experience some of the best, and most affordable, skiing in Europe.
