Ski holidays in Spain

Spain has some of the most mountainous scenery in Europe, and is fast becoming known for its affordable ski holidays. There are more than 20 resorts offering ski breaks in Spain, and while they don’t have the extensive facilities of Alpine ski holidays, they offer some of the top skiing in Europe.
At The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors we are able to offer skiing breaks in quiet and unspoilt resorts as well as large ski centres. Spanish skiing holidays offer numerous black runs and off piste challenges for experienced skiers, and are especially good value for families, with cheap après ski entertainment in friendly surroundings.

Main regions for Spanish ski holidays

The main Spanish skiing areas are the Pyrenees in the north, and the Sierra Nevada mountains in the south. However, ski breaks are also available north of Madrid, as well as north-west of  Valencia.
Some Spanish resorts, like Cambrils, offer ski breaks along with summer holidays, and practically all Spanish ski holidays are in resorts close to popular year round destinations like Barcelona, Valles and the Costa del Sol

Skiing breaks in the Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada is Europe's most southerly ski area, with peaks rising to 11,000 feet that are snow covered for much of the year. Close to Grenada and – unbelievably - the Costa del Sol, the peaks are close to well known tourist haunts like Almeria, Algarrobo and Campanillas. This means you could be skiing in the morning, and sunbathing by the afternoon!
The resort village of Pradollano, close to Grenada town, offers excellent skiing opportunities for all levels. Beginners are well taken care of, with patient instructors, while expert skiers can go flying off piste with their own mountain guides.

Ski holidays in the Pyrenees

Baqueira-Beret is Spain’s leading destination for skiing breaks. Located in the spectacular Vall d'Aran area, west of Andorra, it offers skiing for all abilities - including five challenging black runs – and sophisticated après ski entertainment.

Skiing breaks elsewhere

Madrid is close to two large resorts, La Pinilla and Valdesqui. Both offer excellent value. Back in the Pyrenees, there are numerous small village resorts to choose from, with limited après ski but superb black runs. Formigal, Candanchu and La Molina attract visitors both summer and winter, and are excellent places to head for if you prefer ski breaks to be 90% adrenaline biased.
At The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors we will be happy to discuss your requirements for skiing holidays, and suggest suitable Spanish destinations for ski breaks for all levels.
