Skiing holidays in Switzerland

Switzerland ski breaks are no longer expensive. Today affordable Switzerland skiing breaks are available even in the top resorts – especially for families. Comparable Switzerland charges extremely low prices for the under 10s.
Many people enjoy skiing holidays in Switzerland for the other activities too, such as sleigh rides and steam train journeys. At The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors, we have skiing holidays offering a whole range of things to do besides just skiing.
The classic image of ski holidays in Switzerland - traditional gingerbread Swiss chalets and powder, virgin snow – hasn’t changed much. However, there are also ski breaks in modern purpose built sports resorts, for those preferring less kitsch.

Where to take skiing holidays in Switzerland

Some of the best ski breaks are in resorts in the Wallis Canton, which has some of the prettiest villages in the Alps. Two of the best known resorts for skiing holidays are here – Zermatt, Klosters and St Moritz.
St Moritz is as much known for its international atmosphere and designer fashion as for serious winter sports. Today, St Moritz is surrounded by resorts offering family ski holidays. With over 229 runs, the region  caters for every level of skier and, like all skiing holidays in Switzerland, it has numerous opportunities for snowboarding on and off-piste.
Zermatt, overlooked by the Matterhorn, has several challenging off piste runs and is much vaunted by advanced skiers. Being car free, Zermatt is perfect for family ski holidays, and offers something for everyone – including superb restaurants and après ski nightlife. All three resorts connect via the picturesque Trans Glacier Express.

Switzerland skiing holidays James Bond style

Switzerland is renowned for its trains, which are a popular way to travel between the slopes. They have featured in numerous movies and documentaries. For non-skiers in the party, the Oberland region has some superb off-piste excursions by train.
Central Switzerland is dominated by the Rigi Mountain, whose railway is the oldest in Europe. The Pilatus Mountains, at 2130 meters, have the world's steepest railway to get you to the pistes, while the Jungfraujoch (3454 metres) is topped by Europe’s highest railway station. All offer superb skiing opportunities.
The Stranserhorn, like many Swiss ski areas, is topped by a superb rotary restaurant. The best way to relax off piste, another is to be found at Schilthorn - chosen as the setting for one of the Bond movies.
Switzerland has numerous great ski holidays to choose from. At The Co-operative Personal Travel Advisors, we’ll be pleased to help you choose ski breaks in Switzerland to suit you.
